PATTERN BASED SYSTEMS

Pattern based system families in Revit are normally used for curtain walls but not restricted to as can be shown by  the video on the other side of this link:

A lot of contemporary designs in architecture utilise curtain walls and thus pattern based panels, an example of this is given in the images below.  This design is by Xavier Vilalta Studio, called The Alpha project whereby they designed a skyscraper tower for Doha, Qatar based on ancient Arabic tiles for the curtain walls.

HOW TO SET UP A SIMPLE PANEL FOR A PATTERN BASED SYSTEM FAMILY

There are various ways of setting up a pattern based systems such as the one shown in my video below.  This method is by Zack Krons, a software analyst at Autodesk in the United States, and I completed the panel setup using his method then used it to apply it to a mass.  See below:

Finally the video in the link below offers an alternate method to pattern based systems.  Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF4JUcJCRH0
Additional information on pattern based systems can be looked up in the book: Mastering Revit Architecture 2013, by Phil Read, James Vandezande and Eddy Krygiel.
